RUSSELL HATTON

Russell Hatton's work possesses integrity, professionalism and quality based upon spontaneity and desire for exploration. Russell has developed an intricate understanding of the materials he works with thus realising their creative potential beyond industrial use. He has an extensive knowledge and skill set to allow him to create partial or complete departure from accurate representation, to invite the viewer to select visual recognition within the work. 

 

Using high and low pressures to manipulate the paint onto the aluminium surface, the results are an attempt to control the chaotic. 

 

Sharing the characteristics of other Op Artists, Russell explores the interplay between the two dimensional surface and the appearance of depth and movement within it. The relationship between light and complex paints also plays a significant role. 

 

Defining periods have resulted in a series of works which show progression and evolution. Russell is attempting to create an alternative rhetoric of beauty and intrigue.
